Our Favorite Smart Home Tech from CES 2019

Smart Home Tech is top of the “must have” list for our home buyers. We have been researching the latest new offerings and wanted to share our favorites trending for 2019 on the heels of the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) held annually in Las Vegas. Not only will these Smart Home features bring convenience to your life, they can also help sell your home faster.

Topping the list is the U by Moen Smart Shower. We’ve all sung in the shower but, with the latest smart home technology, you’ll also be able to talk. The new U by Moen Smart Shower connects with Alexa, Google Assistant and Siri so that you can turn on and off the water, adjust the heat and change water pressure all without touching a switch.

While pricing has not yet been announced, this will be one of the first showers equiped with voice command technology to hit the market – and, as a result, will likely not come cheap.

For those who like to cook, there’s more smart home technology options in the kitchen.

The GE kitchen display, which was first teased at last year’s CES, is now ready to hit the shelves. The 27-inch touchscreen is designed to hang above one’s countertop. The display can feature recipes and grocery lists or run movies or your favorite cooking shows on Netflix.

The smart display costs between $1,200 and $1,400 and will be available for shipping in May 2019.

The king of washers and driers is going digital. Launching at some point later this year, the Whirlpool Laundry App will feature a tool for programming cycles, a laundry day tracking system, and an easy-to-access online guide for how to treat different types of garments and stains. The app will also sync with Whirpool’s smart laundry appliances, connect to devices like the Apple Watch, and synch to voice command devices through the Amazon Alexa or the Google Assistant.

Stay on top of your pet’s feeding schedule from anywhere with the Petnet SmartFeeder 2nd Gen Wi-Fi Pet Feeder. Connecting to your home’s Wi-Fi network, this clever pet accessory dispenses food just as you need it. You can choose to set an automatic schedule which will deliver food right to the bowl at just the right time. Or, you can use the app to manually fill Fido’s bowl. The SmartFeeder works with an iOS/Android app for intuitive use. Plus, it also integrates with Amazon Alexa, Google Assistant, and Nest Cam. The app will alert you when your pet has eaten, if you’re low on food, and more. No matter where you are in the world, you can have total peace of mind that your pet is well fed.

Last but most important is the Wink Hub 2, this easy to install device consolidates all your Smart Home Tech into one user-friendly app. The free Android and iOS Wink app is well organized and offers detailed instructions to help you pair components and monitor your connected devices. Its use of large icons makes it more user-friendly. The home screen displays icons of product categories such as Thermostats, Sensors, Cameras, and Lights + Power. Tapping any category icon takes you to a screen with icons for each installed device in that category. Tap any device to check its status and access its settings, or in the case of a camera, launch a live video stream. The Sensors screen has icons for temperature, humidity, motion, and door-window sensors and their current status (temperature, motion detected, door open, etc.).
