The Best Listing of the Year (For a Well-Paid Lobbyist)
DC is now a town replete with high-end, luxurious homes that appeal to the city’s growing, well-heeled clientele. So, finding a listing that should be highlighted above all others for a given year is not an easy task. Here is our favorite for 2016.
The owners of 1516 Kingman Place NW purchased the rowhouse in May 2014, and then immediately embarked on a renovation with AllenBuilt and architect Jon Hensley that not only revamped the interior, but almost doubled the home’s footprint.
The back of the home was extended twelve feet to make way for a living space, a Pedini-designed kitchen with a massive Cesarstone island and a 16-foot wide glass and steel system that opens to the renovated back deck.
“We recognized the house had good bones but we wanted to enhance it with a large indoor/outdoor space for entertaining,” the owners told UrbanTurf. “We made the kitchen the heart of the house, as that is where everyone naturally congregates.”
The second level was renovated to be completely open, except for a pocket door that closes off the master suite. The lower level was made into a family room with space for another bedroom.
Unfortunately, the owners didn’t have very long to enjoy the renovation. Shortly after it was complete, the couple relocated to Florida for work. The home went on the market in February, but didn’t stay there very long, as it was under contract in less than a week.
